Just two years later, he was named the country's Junior Champion. After training at Vidal Sassoon in London, Campbell made his way to Hollywood, where he worked with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet on Titanic. His star-studded clientele also includes Cameron Diaz, Salma Hayek, Kate Bosworth, Mischa Barton and Rachel Bilson.

SOURCE: MYStyle.com (http://www.mystyle.com/mystyle/shows/stylesecret/castbios/index.jsp)

Adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02460460426044090254noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4615837762601374123.post-36896769004356266412009-12-18T03:16:00.000-08:002009-12-18T03:55:42.518-08:00Truth in Aging: CTonics Hair Products - Reviewed and Recommended

Some words just speak directly to my heart. Words like “Best of the Best,” “Secret Weapons of Beauty Experts,” and “Best Products You’ve Never Heard Of.” So when I picked up the December issue of Allure magazine and saw the words “Secret Beauty Finds” on the cover, I knew was a goner. And while all of those “secret beauty finds” were pretty interesting, I did manage to keep my purchases to a minimum: a vial of perfume oil, and some CTonics hair products.

CTonics was created by celebrity hair stylist Campbell McAuley and holistic practitioner Dr. Julian Neal. Their intent was to create hair care products – or in their words, “holistic treatments” – that would improve the look of hair over time, rather than create more of the same old hair products that work for a few weeks and then leave your hair looking limp and lifeless.

They shunned the commonplace chemicals found in so many shampoos in favor of live, bioactive organic ingredients that nourish the hair and help to make it stronger and grow longer. Ingredients include essential oils, clays, herbs, and nut butters. The products are vegan and gluten-free, and do not contain any parabens, sulfates, petrochemicals or artificial colors.

What’s particularly interesting about the products is that they are multi-purpose. For instance, the Passion, which can be used as a shampoo, can also be used as a conditioning treatment when left on the hair for a longer period of time. The Elixir Milk can be used as a gentle cleanser, a rinse-out conditioner, a leave-in conditioner, or a styling cream.

I chose to try the Passion, Elixir Blossom and Elixir Milk. I use the Passion as a shampoo/treatment: I massage it into my scalp and hair, then twist it up and let it sit for about 3 minutes. Because of the clay and natural ingredients in the Passion, there is no sudsing action, which can feel strange to those used to lots of suds. Then I rinse and apply the Elixir Blossom conditioner. Again, I twist my hair on my head and let it sit for about 5 minutes. After rinsing and towel drying, I mix some of the Elixir Milk with some Nutra-Lift Hair Gel, apply to my hair, and let air dry.

I’ve been washing my hair with this process twice a week for about three weeks now, and my hair, which reaches about halfway down my back, looks and feels incredible. It feels thicker and fuller and softer than it has in a very long time. Typically this time of year (the temperature’s been dipping below zero degrees the last few days here in Minnesota) my hair would be mess of frizzy hair full of static, but instead it’s shiny, smooth and full of body. I throw some foam curlers in the second day and get great waves that hold just as well as they do with a strong-hold gel. Overall my hair just looks incredibly healthy.

Whole Foods has picked up the product line and features it in their stores in California, and the products should be available at all Whole Foods stores in the near future. The CTonics products run about $25 a bottle, but you can find some good deals online. I purchased mine at Beautyhabit.com, which is currently offering a Buy 2, Get 1 Free special on CTonics products. I also found a 20% off coupon code for the site, so I got three bottles – Passion, Elixir Blossom, and Elixir Milk – for $40, a saving of $35. Not bad for healthy products that actually deliver.

It feels so great to use products that are good for you and that actually make you look good too. And it feels especially great when those products are a “secret.” But I think those “secret beauty finds” aren’t quite so secret anymore!
<input In fact, when you first use it, it’s almost a little disconcerting as you squeeze the quarter-sized dollop into your hand and realize that it’s opaque dark brown. Plus, there is a little ritual involved…a double wash with not much lather on the first round, leave it on your hair for two Ctonics Bioactive Organic Hair Careminutes kind of ritual. But, persevere…because this organic hair care product line is quite wonderful and your hair will look and feel truly healthy. In fact, I really needed a haircut when I started using Ctonics and totally thought I looked like a shaggy dog. But, people were all of a sudden telling me how great my hair looked. Go figure…

Ctonics is a line of "live bioactive organic hair tonics," which also contain natural essential oils. The company even recommends that you either refrigerate the tonics and elixirs or keep them in a cool place out of direct sunlight to keep the bioactive formula alive and at peak potency, also evidently the reason for the dark brown opaque bottles. Ctonics is also vegan and never tested on animals. One final note…Ctonics says that after using the tonics regularly, you will no longer need a conditioner at all.

There are seven products in the line, five cleansing tonics for different hair types and two conditioning elixirs. Makeup artist Monika Blunder kept the eye neutral, first applying Ombre d’Eau, a liquid-y eyeshadow, in Sand, $30, then brushing on a pressed eyeshadow in the champagne colored Dessert-Rose, $39, on top of that to give her eyes “a sparkling glow.” She dotted Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Ebene, $27, between her lashes, and then applied three coats of Inimitable Mascara in Noir, $28, on the upper lashes. Blunder brought out her cheekbones by contouring the hollows first with Powder Blush in Nude, $40, and then brushing the tops of the cheeks with Narcisse, $40, a light pink color. Before applying lipstick, she used Lip Definer in Red, $29, to fill in the lips. For Heigl’s bright red lips, Blunder chose Rouge Allure Lipstick in Lover, $30, because of its pink undertones. She finished the look by brushing on a bit of translucent powder to “help it stay throughout the show.”

Hair stylist Campbell McAuley created a complementary old school– yet modern– style to go with the makeup and went for a cool twist on the bun. He put Katherine’s hair in Velcro rollers when it was still wet, blew it dry and sprayed with Frederic Fekkai Coiff Fini Sheer Hold Hairspray, $23. Then he removed the curlers, except for two in the front and brushed out the curls, using Frederic Fekkai Glossing Cream, $20, to set the hair. He divided the hair into three sections and then wrapped each section in a different direction to create three separate buns. He took the two front curlers out and worked back into the hairstyle to create a soft, touchable look on the top.

SOURCE: People
(http://stylenews.peoplestylewatch.com/2007/09/18/get-the-look-katherine-heigls-emmy-beauty/)
DATE: September 18, 2007
PHOTO: Mathew Imaging/FilmMagicAdminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02460460426044090254noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4615837762601374123.post-20827565257260890832009-12-17T00:25:00.000-08:002009-12-18T03:56:48.067-08:00EXCLUSIVE: The Truth About Katherine Heigl's New Hair Color

"I've always wanted to be a brunette... in a town of blondes it makes me look more exotic," Katherine Heigl once told us. He's the affable Aussie who tends to Hollywood's alpha locks-and created Oh's hot cover-girl look.

Sandra Oh showed up at L.A.'s Quixote Studio wearing a major, chunky skull ring that drew oohs and aahs. Her secret: It's actually a $10 novelty Secret Santa gift from Grey's Anatomy costar Justin Chambers. The studio shook with techno and hard rock until Oh requested Björk-all she needed to return to her ballet roots and dance for the camera. The shoot was so fun that Oh stayed behind afterward to hang and have a beer with the crew. Last night I spoke with hairstylist Campbell McAuley, about how he created Kate's old Hollywood style sweeping soft waves secured in a low side chignon. He said,

"Because Kate's dress was lovely and simple, the hair was styled the same way to create an elegant look."

For step by step instructions on how to create this look at home, read more...

* Campbell explained it is crucial to apply a smoothing product when the hair is wet. He used Smooth Hair, $17.50, when the hair is wet. This adds shine and prevents frizz.
* Begin by blow drying hair straight. Next, when Campbell was ready to begin styling, he used a medium sized curling iron around the front of her face for volume. Try Enzo Milano's 25 mm Grande Curling Iron, $129.95.
* Then, brush out the hair completely until it's smooth and put it in a side ponytail. Then run a nickel sized amount of Technician Color-Protecting Glaze, $20, into the palms of your hands and apply it all over the hair to add even more shine!
* Next, add a little extra hair (either a weave or extensions) to the ponytail so that it's fuller and thicker and then shape it into a side knot and secure it with bobby pins.
* Lastly, mist hair all over with a light hairspray for hold.

SOURCE: FABSUGAR
(http://www.fabsugar.com/151471)
DATE: February 27, 2007
AUTHOR: BellySugar

Adminhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02460460426044090254noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4615837762601374123.post-55809320322694289582009-12-16T23:05:00.000-08:002009-12-18T03:56:48.069-08:00CTONICS: The People BehindCAMPBELL MCAULEY was born in Australia and at the age of 14 began the four-year apprenticeship required in Australia to become a certified hairdresser. At 16, the prodigious stylist-to-be was named Australian Junior Champion. At 18, Campbell went to London where he trained at the Vidal Sassoon salon. His editorial career in film, television, and print magazines began by working with Leonardo DiCaprio and Clare Danes on the UK press and premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet.”

Campbell then moved to the palm latitudes of Hollywood where his first US job found him reunited with actor Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as his female co-star Kate Winslet, on the blockbuster film Titanic. Winslet has remained a client since, and been joined by many of her peers—Claire Danes, Cameron Diaz and Kyra Sedgwick among them—as well as the cream of the new breed, including Rachel Bilson, Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood and Katherine Heigl.

Personally, a growing interest in alternative medicine, healing and spirituality was developing alongside Campbell’s professional career. “True beauty,” opines McAuley, “is an enhancement of each woman’s own unique natural beauty. To manifest that beauty as a hair stylist is my goal, as well as my privilege.” To see Campbell’s editorial work go to: Campbell McAuley

DR JULIAN NEIL is a holistic practitioner, iridologist, spiritual psychologist, and yoga master in private practice in Los Angeles who specializes in the mind/body/spirit healing of all illnesses.
